Orange and Silver Striped Art!

Hi everyone!

Today I have a kind of mini tutorial on how to use striping tape. This was done about a month ago, but it's just making its way on to the blog. I love the effect striping tape gives, with stark contrast between colours and sections of nail, so I wanted to create some nail art with totally different colours. I picked one of the brightest colours I have (don't have any neons!) China Glaze - Papaya Punch, and paired it with Delush Polish - Fairest of Them All. The two are different finishes as well, with Papaya Punch being a creme, and Fairest of Them All being a foil-like microglitter. This makes the difference between colours pop more!

First step when using striping tape is to lay down your base colour. This ends up being the colour that pops through underneath where the tape was sitting after you pull it off. Striping tape works like a stencil in that respect. I used 2 coats of silver, and 3-4 of orange - the formula is a little streaky on this one.

Second step is the most important really: WAIT FOR THE BASE LAYERS TO BE 110% DRY! If you skip this step, or they're touch dry but not bang-into-things-dry, then the tape will rip up the base colour when you remove it, ruining the whole nail. Not something you want to get into.

Once you're sure everything is dry, you add your tape sections in whatever design you like. It can be as simple as vertical stripes, or as complicated as an Aztec-inspired tribal design. Ahh, the beauty of striping tape.
Woops, other hand!

Paint your top colour over the layers of tape, then pull the tape off while the top colour is still wet. If you let it dry, the lines will not look as crisp as intended. After the tape is off, top coat 'em, and you're good to go!
