Ami and Annette are a mother-daughter duo who run Star Kin, a handmade nailpolish business. Harriet from Nailhilism has also recently joined their ranks to make some new polishes. Check their Etsy shop out. They are currently only able to ship to New Zealand as our rules regarding outside transit of polish are prettttty strict.
I'm a sucker for holographic nailpolish, and when Star Kin had a massive sale about a month ago to make way for new (including Christmas) nailpolish, I went all out. No regrets. I managed to get a few items that had been on my wishlist for aaaages.
This is super photo heavy! Check out after the jump for Kiwi Indie greatness!
My polishes arrived in this cutesie little bag with an owl sticker! I love owls, so I was super happy.
Here are five polishes. (I've not worn R.S. on a sunny day yet, so haven't managed to capture its holo goodness). Look at the cutie owls again! And the note says: "Near kin or far kin, all of us are Star Kin."
Left to right: R.S., Shiraz, Twilight, Ascend, 80s Lycra.
ASCEND BOTTLE SHOT WOW
Ascend (messy) walking to work on a sunny day. Amazing. Strongest holographic finish of the four I bought. It's such a cool colour.
I had some serious problems getting this to dry, but it might have been because I tried to paint my nails in 15 minutes before work. This is my second go with Ascend, 3 coats.
Shiraz bottle shot
This is the lovely Shiraz inside under my kitchen light. It was a totally different colour inside to outside in natural sunlight. In reality Shiraz is a little less blue-toned than this picture, and a little more red toned than the picture below. Ugh cameras. 2 coats.
Shiraz in natural sunlight (with my fave new lippy).
Star Kin - Twilight bottle shot :D mmmm that rainbow!
Look, Mum! I'm a real blogger! Twilight is so pretty. Best blue around. I'm pretty sure I'll never be able to buy another blue and have it be anything close to this cool. A strong holo in the sunlight, but just a shimmer underneath my kitchen light. 2-3 coats.
Twilight again.
80s Lycra bottle shot.
And the awesome, happiness-inducing 80s Lycra! This matte glitter dries fast - not my experience with many glitters, ever - and is packed with yellow, green, purple, pink, blue and red hexes and squares. The blue ones were few and far between so I dabbed to get them on each nail :). Shown is 2 coats (plus dabs) over Sally Hansen - White On. I think this would look great over a light grey to make all the colours pop, because the white tends to wash out the green glitters. So cool.

Awesome, Kelsie! Thank you so much, and I'm glad you like them! *happy dance*
ReplyDeleteYou're so welcome, Ami. Thank you!! I love them heaps! (Now to get a photo of RS in the sun...)
